Located between Geylang Serai and the famous Joo Chiat road, 27 Residence responds to the site by imagining the area as a fabric. It takes into account the form and height of the buildings, the roads and footpaths, and the people who move within the area. Joo Chiat Road is 27 deg. from the line of symmetry, unique only to the area. As the buildings carry a significant value and image to Joo Chiat, the form should not break from the layout of the site, continuing the site’s “fabric” edges to carve the structures and landscape within.

The form and pathways are carved using the surrounding shophouses, each linking into the site. Two separate forms, a cafe and sheltered events space, cater to two groups, visitors and residents respectively. To pay homage to the height of the shophouses, the front facade starts from the roof height and curve upwards, creating mezzanine spaces that are dedicated to residents of Joo Chiat as a community. The Sky Terrace is folded to create a frame that looks south-east to the vast view of East Coast, unhindered by any high rise building.
