Stretching a Narrow Home

How do we make a narrow house feel big? This was the challenge posed by the existing conditions. The clients desired a space that was homely, bright and had visual connection to where they would be able to see each other during the day.

The opportunity lay in the removal of key walls that separated the key spaces. This resulted in a fluid space where the living, dining and kitchen are all visually linked. The wall separating the dining and bedroom was also removed, revealing a framed view to the study room. What was a narrow layout became a unique plan that stretched the spaces end-to-end, drawing light to the deeper areas as well as allowing the clients to view each other though they may be in different parts of the home. The framed view also serves as an additional seating area for visitors, minimizing the need for additional chairs when hosting.
